Receive personalized help and answers from a health guide when you call UniCare Member Services. You can also work with a primary nurse for one-on-one support to help you reach your health goals. (For Basic, PLUS and Community Choice members only.)
Understanding Your Explanation of Benefits (EOB)
For every doctor visitor service, your EOB explains the services, the cost of those services, and the benefits from your plan that may be applied to the care you received.
Changing to Medicare Coverage
Have You Moved?
If you are an active employee, be sure to contact your GIC Coordinator to provide your new home address so you receive all GIC and UniCare mailings. If you are a retiree, call the GIC to update your information.
Find a Medical Doctor (For Non-Medicare Members Only)
Find primary and specialty care medical providers and see which tier your Massachusetts specialist is designated as. When you or your dependents use the non-Massachusetts contracted providers shown in the Find a Doctor tool, you won't be balance billed.
Find a Contracted Behavioral Health Provider
Search for a mental health or substance use disorder provider. Use these providers for behavioral health services to receive the highest level of benefits and to avoid balance billing with non-Massachusetts providers.
LiveHealth Online Telehealth Program
Schedule a video visit with a board-certified doctor, licensed therapist, or psychiatrist from your smartphone, tablet, or computer with internet access and a camera. (For Basic, PLUS, and Community Choice members only.)
Emergency rooms save lives – that's what they're for. But, if you're dealing with a less threatening issue, getting care doesn't have to take so long or cost so much. You have choices, even when you need care right away.

Advance Care Planning
At any moment we could face a serious medical crisis. It’s important to communicate with our loved ones or healthcare providers the kind of treatment we'd want if we were too ill to make care decisions for ourselves.
Understanding Healthcare Quality
For non-Medicare members only, specialist tiering is an important part of the GIC’s interest in addressing rising healthcare costs. UniCare assigns Massachusetts specialty care providers to levels or tiers. All specialists within a practice have the same tier. Members in our Basic, PLUS, and Community Choice plans have lower office visit copays when they see Tier 1 specialists than when they see Tier 2 or Tier 3 specialists. Primary care providers are not subject to the group tiering process.
Patient-Centered Primary Care Providers
Through our Patient-Centered Primary Care program, UniCare works with primary care practices in Massachusetts to help them incorporate the key elements of patient-centered care. Patient-centered care practices are those that have integrated systems of care within their practices to foster the relationship between patients and their primary care providers (PCPs).
The Leapfrog Group
Leapfrog is a private, not-for-profit organization sponsored by many major businesses. Its goal is to promote safety, quality, and affordability of healthcare by providing information that helps consumers make informed healthcare decisions. They provide information to help you compare hospitals for their overall patient safety ratings and by how safely they perform certain procedures.
