Advance Care Planning

At any moment we could face a serious medical crisis. It’s important to communicate with our loved ones or healthcare providers the kind of treatment we'd want if we were too ill to make care decisions for ourselves.

Understanding Healthcare Quality

Provider Tiering

For non-Medicare members, provider tiering is an important part of the GIC’s interest in addressing rising healthcare costs. UniCare uses group tiering. This means that all providers within a practice (or group) are assigned to the same tier. Members in our PLUS and Community Choice plans have lower office visit copays when they see Tier 1 providers than when they see Tier 2 or Tier 3 providers.

Hospital Compare

Compare hospital quality in several different ways, provided by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The Leapfrog Group

Leapfrog is a private, not-for-profit organization sponsored by many major businesses. Its goal is to promote safety, quality, and affordability of healthcare by providing information that helps consumers make informed healthcare decisions. They provide information to help you compare hospitals for their overall patient safety ratings and by how safely they perform certain procedures.
